DeZentral

The popular programme with street art and more will also feature in this corona-proof special edition of the festival. Instead of Zentral on the Landiwiese, you can experience DeZentral round the corner from you! Daily, the DeZentral bus, packed with simple equipment, barrier tape and an announcement board, will stop in a Zurich district and a variety of artists will present a short pop-up programme throughout the week. This could be circus theatre, dance, artistry or clowning. During weekends, there will be concerts and on Saturdays, a late-night format.

Jamais en retraite (Never Retire)

The slack wire and trick-cycling artists Gioia Zanaboni and Anja Eberhart show, in humorous and tender ways, what it means to be old in our society. The protagonists, Carla and Maria, are two Don Quixotes of modern times, who are determined to defy the boundaries set by their age. An enchanting story about small-scale adventures and large-scale friendships.

SCHORSCH UND OSKAR

Schorsch und Oskar are the four multi-instrumentalists Rena Hauser (voice, accordion, clarinet, bass clarinet), Sophie Aebersold (voice, ukulele, guitar, double bass), Simona Grossenbacher (percussion, voice) and Anuschka Strässle (double bass, voice, ukulele, guitar). With wit and charm, the quartet tells stories about silent farts, fast bicycles and other irrelevant topics. For children and adults alike.

It’s alright to make mistakes. Circus always bears a certain risk. So let’s try! Under this motto, Julio Calero Ferre, Daniel Torralbo Pérez and Gianna Sutterlet, graduates of the École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque, have designed their acrobatics show: The young artists, specialists in springboard and hand-to-hand acrobatics, present a playful, touching and vigorous programme rated «suitable for high skies and hard floors».

 

THE FIELD

I Object
Switzerland / Thu 20 and Fri 21 Aug 18 hrs

For several weeks, The Field company has conducted fieldwork in Zurich, collecting trashed or otherwise disposed objects lying in the streets. In their dance production, they invert the process, reinserting their finds into urban spaces and questioning the relationships between humans and objects. (Concept: Lucia Gugerli, Performance: Declan Whitaker and Mirjam Jamuna Zweifel)

 

JURCZOK 1001 & MICHAEL FEHR

Switzerland/ Sun 23 Aug 20 hrs

Two voices. One concert. At the centre of the programme of the two artists is the word, its message, its sound. Jurczok 1001 is a voice artist, human beatbox and singer rolled into one. He needs no instruments for his songs and compositions just his voice, which he mixes with loops into a variety of rhythmical variations. The loops are superimposed on and lay the foundation for the texts telling of urban occurrences.

Michael Fehr creates poetic, rhythmic and musical narrative works. He works with repetition, reduction and articulation in order to create suspense and composure, noise and silence, power and fragility.

 

DAS BÜRO MIT DEM LUSTIGEN NAMEN

Das Stück mit dem lustigen Namen

This sounds like a lot of fun! By sheer play with words and the power of imagination, this «office with the funny name» creates a plethora of characters and worlds. The friendship of the two stage characters (Florian Butsch and Gregor Schaller, director: Johannes Dullin) gives rise to funny, absurd and quite perplexing situations. Wacky, wild and funny!

 

EMILIANO ALESSI

Tei Tei

The clown, mime and juggling artist Emiliano Sanchez Alessi from Barcelona thrilled the Zentral audience last year. Now he enhances the DeZentral programme with a gloriously witty solo, in which a duct tape plays a rather important role. A wonderful silent play around a hitherto completely underrated object which has finally gained appropriate recognition in the age of corona.

 

HORA’BAND

Switzerland / Sun 30 Aug 18 hrs

«This combo seems to inhabit its own universe. When they play, the most wonderful music you can imagine emerges. Solemn sounds, telepathic interactions, authentic emotions and atmospheres. With songs, guitars, Wurlitzer organ, drums, shruti box, melodica and glockenspiel, the Hora musicians fabricate their sound. The melodies are tender, the forms fragile, the energies brute, the results convincingly compact. A concert with this band will update your notion of music in completely new ways», reads the announcement of Hora’band at the Stanser Musiktage 2017.
